Alewife Station
The ebony cabbies congregate at nighttime. I stare at their jovial socializing. Eight or ten pairs of white teeth, laughter. Service to Cambridge and Waltham. I'm pleasantly surprised by the scene.

Grocery Checkout
Going through the checkout at Shaw's grocery store during some mundane weekday afternoon. Talking with the lady behind me. A son in the military. About to ship off to Afghanistan or Iraq.
I handed my items to the cashier; told her about the lady. She already knew. Military Mom checks out groceries in grandmother cashier's line everyday.
I feel this sense of community. It seems that people want to know each other.

Dunkin' Donuts and Red Sox
Fanatical. Religious. Loyal.
This is how Bostonians feel about the Red Sox and Dunkin' Donuts, especially the coffee.
These two phenomenons unite everyone in this town.
The urban sophisticate. The elderly. The college student. The blue collar worker. The stay at home mom. The young professional. The middle aged. The family guy. Or the guy with no family.
Stop by any Dunkin' Donuts during the morning rush and you'll meet these people.
Conversation topic: Red Sox baseball. Even during the off season.
